Not going (well, unlikely) to be used in a flask, but remember that wire wool should never be used to clean up stainless steel - or rust spots will develop from any particles embedded in/on the surface.You shouldn't use hydrochloric acid near any kind of stainless steel. Chlorides are stainlesses kryptonite!

I used to clean my home brew barrel with bleach, the unflavoured runny old style stuff. One day my wife said she would clean & sterilise it while I was at work. She used that pine flavoured thick bog bleach, it took ages to swill that out & make it usable!Other flavours are available !
Bleach has worked fine in mine for the last 30 +
