Ello there, i'm usually lurking more on the mig side of this forum, but i thought i'd make you all feel better about your welding by posting a pic of my first ever attempt at tig.
I've had this cheapy rohr stick welder for a while, used it to repair a trailer and a few other bits with the normal stick electrodes but i finally got around to giving it a go with tig, just for my own curiosity more than anything else, had a tig set up set-aside for it ready to go since i got it really, just never got round to it, until today!.
Couldnt get alot of playing in as i only have a couple pure argon disposables (shameful i know) to mess with and i used one just fannying around and doing what you see here, might save the other for a rainy day, the machine does have hf start atleast and i was somewhat supprised that it worked, the first one of these orange turds i bought was completely DOA.
As the title suggests, not sure i'll pursue tig anyway given the cost vs my migs, mostly the gas, not sure it gains me that much more functionality (unless an ac machine falls in my lap), but the cleanlyness and quietness of the process i can definately appreciate, its almost relaxing watching the puddle form and then gliding along, i do see the attraction.
Not entirely convinced i'll need it or ever be good at it, but it was an interesting thing to do... for a few minutes until the gas ran out.
Time to go buy another project mig, until next time!
P.s my dads borrowing my folding bench i usually use for welding hence me crawling round on the floor, not helpful.
