Acrows make great axle stands with a bit of home weldery; the built in fine adjustment is ideal when you're fixing a chassis. They're supposedly rated at over 4 tons each, I'd not be surprised if they were good for a lot more. Apologies for looking manic in this photo.

I'm sure some are aware, but it bears mentioning. You should never rest a load on the end grain of timber or a log as it's likely to split. Just think how a splitting maul works and you can see you're putting pressure on in the same way with a round axle, blot end, pebble underneath etc etc. Those cable jacks look really solid.
A friend of mine is bringing a stout tree trunk round this afternoon for me to hopefully cut a pair of 18” parallel ended logs. It remains to be seen how straight I can cut with my chainsaw!
PM'd you. Those cable jacks look really solid.

It was the small footprint that puts me off.@Parm may know about it, a while ago an HGV tech was killed when a cable jack failed and a truck crushed him. HSE investigation and i think the company shut down because of it.
Fine for smaller stuff i'm sure but i wouldn't put 7t of JCB or truck on them.

I did not know any of that. I thought acros were acros, just available in different lengths. Are the No1,2 and so on different diameters? The greatest SWL for any acrow is 32kn which is around about 3 tonnes however they do have a decent safety factor. Acrow rating actually varies depending on the extension. A No4 acrow is stronger than a No3 acrow at the same working height where the working ranges overlap because less of the No4 is extended outside the base tube.
Obviously, none of this matters for the use discussed but it's info worth knowing.
