Have you priced a sump and availabilityFiller + Argon + time, about the same cost as a new sump, minus the distortion.
2nd picture looks like a piece of Ali in the hole to me.Reason I asked is it looks to be a very big hole with good access. Could have cut a piece of ali to size and reduce the amount of weld considerably
Copper backing piece just run rod in up against it2nd picture looks like a piece of Ali in the hole to me.
next one I will . I ended up putting way more rod in than was first thoughtReason I asked is it looks to be a very big hole with good access. Could have cut a piece of ali to size and reduce the amount of weld considerably
Welded a few sumps never had any real problems with distortionCirca £250-300 at a guess, probably backordered no ETA knowing Merc., which means it'll be in UK in ten days - or ten weeks, who knows. Still interested in how you'll counteract the distortion as it doesn't look like you had it clamped down hard on the mating surface and there's a lot of weld (and heat) near part of it. Maybe a S/H one would be a better option, other than a oil pump drive through the side, they don't really suffer much wear.
I did the front of a Scania one a few years ago and it wanted to go all shapes , even after it was bolted down to a plate , and that was only a corner and low down away from the flange , I guess theres a lot less internal stress in a cast alloy sump as opposed to a pressed steel one.Welded a few sumps never had any real problems with distortion

Perhaps in future @doubleboost will consult you before wasting HIS time, HIS argon and HIS filler rod on this pointless exercise.....
