I have a decent Weber gas BBQ, its about 4 years old, but the annoying thing doesn't half get in the way when your not using it. So I put a cover on it an stuck it outside. Bad idea, last winter in a storm, the wind grabbed it from the alley, and threw it around the yard a few times.
All the knobs and two of the burner regulators have snapped off, the other two burners are bent and FUBAR. It needs a new manifold, but the EU version are unavailable over here, only place I have found them is in Holland, but they are on back order. Including knobs it will cost about £250 to repair. So, I've decided to cut my losses, stick it on ebay as spares or repair, and create a better BBQ and provide storage for the smoker and other gas bottles I have.
We did build a block and stone storage area for garden tools, but never put a roof or door on it, and we now use the outbuildings for garden tool storage. So I intend to modify it and build in a gas and charcoal burner. It also means I can get rid of the pointing with just red sand that the builder did, he seems to be in love with the stuff. I always but in some yellow and river sand.
The plan is to lower the height so I can fit some built in BBQ gear, extend it to the left and make sure there is room underneath to take my bullet smoker and gas bottles and plenty of airflow for the burners.
There will be a standard charcoal BBQ, something like this.
And a built in gas BBQ, there's loads to choose from ranging from sensible to silly money, here's a few
The BBQ are is close, but not to close to some decking I need to renovate as the missus wants somewhere with shade from sun and wind to sit out. I put the decking up a few years ago to cover the spring tanks, underneath the decking are 3 or 4 big brick tanks that hold water from a spring, I use it for brewing as we have a borehole for the house, the spring is very seasonal. The decking was used by the kids for a slide, dens etc,. but they have grown out of that now.
The wife covered it in crap wood treatment a couple of years ago so I'll jet wash it off and use decking oil. The wood is still ok, just looks crap.
This will be a slow project, on the back burner
Cheers
Andy
