landrover Welding

Reasonably priced inner arches. They are available from landrover at an eye watering price. I sreally struggled to find alternative pattern parts. Ended up removing panels from anther car that was solid. The difference in price paid for my welder.

Many moons ago I restored an old two door rangrover, it needed the rear chassis legs /crossmember ,inner and outer sills both sides, foot wells, both front inner wings and the slam panel at the front. I think I had change out of five hundred quid for the lot ,it was an absolute doddle and saved a load of time. It was all aftermarket and it needed a few tweeks but it all went together really well. I don’t think I would of entertained it if I was buying OEM.

At least Land Rovers take many years to fall apart!

My 200TDi Disco needed a complete rear floor and side panels at 6 years old due to rot. This wasn't a workhorse either that had been abused !

my old girl doesnt look to bad maz0, only had to do 2 small repairs so far.

a dear friend of mine has a grandson who has a landrover which has failed on some welding He has asked me to have a look to see if I could do it The lads dad has a workshop with a workshop gas mig so no problems there any advice please? if it is just plating could i use standard car welding plate??Tried to talk me way out off it but he still wants me to have a look

Which model of Land Rover is it?
Would you not be better off teaching the lad to weld and oversee his work for a bit, then if his work is OK tell him to get on with it?

My mate had two, sent the first back to Land Rover as it was shockingly built part ex’d the second for a Mitzi phev about 2 months after owning it and the dealer having it for 8 weeks

Does the Freelander now have low 4WD? I know it's a long time ago but a mate in 1998/9 won a free test drive for a weekend for a Freelander so off to the beach we went, was the most useless 4wd I'd ever driven. Even my old beach buggy which was 2wd and was miles better. It struggled even with the slightest sand hill that other fwds just cruised over in low 4wd, we had to thrash it to get anywhere on sand. It went back to the dealer with a "not for us thanks".

Landrover have got over the corrosion issues.
They suffer major mechanical and electrical poop out before they can rust.
Job done

No it is still a soft roader. BUT in slippery stuff it is amazing. I had the Freelander 2. In ice and snow it was better than my Defender or Disco 1. It was also the best car I have ever driven on soaking wet motorways - no aquaplaning ever. But to be serious it does need a proper low ratio.

And if anyone doubts the FreeLander Prince Phillip walked away with barely a scratch. Not bad for a bloke in his 90s flipping a car. Obviously offers lots of protection.
