the rcd is the main switch and double pole. if your using 6mm cable you can up the rating at the supply to 40 amp. stick with b type and only change to c if your having inrush current problemsdoes it need a proper double pole switch too or will the rcd suffice
Also is it advisable to have C type MCBs over the B

nothing the only thing I can say is your not supposed to use mix and match breakers now / you can do it as its your own . if I fit anything it has to be all by the same manufacturer new 18th edition regsThanks kind chap. I have a 3 spare consumer units in the workshop I removed from 3 flats they are a little large but I could fit one under the stairs next to the main home board. Saves buying one and i have a fair few RCDs buzz bars MCBs and RCBOs whats to stop me making up my own?
Ill have a look later when I go out later, and see, and measure it.
that's ott getting 10mm 6mm will cover everything you want using diversity .your hardly likely to have everything starting and running at the same timeYes they should be metal units I know! but it was there 2 years ago! actually one of them may be a metal one ill have to check.
but I have so many bits it seems silly buying something new when I could just put something together and it do the job and more if need be.
Oh well I will order some 6mm then. @brightspark will 6mm be ok? or should I go all out and get 10mm
thats true but i will run 6mm to the work shop and maybe leave the garage but move the tails into the new C/Uthat's ott getting 10mm 6mm will cover everything you want using diversity .your hardly likely to have everything starting and running at the same time
its only in 2.5mm that limits you to a 25amp mcb at sourcewhat's the fuse box in your house like?
why not just stick a bigger mcb in that?

2.5mm radial is ok on 25 amp if cable clipped direct but that's it max just over 4kw without being criticalits only a radial i believe so even less than 25 amp
2.5mm radial is ok on 25 amp but that's it max
will run them no probsit could be enough for the lathe and lights then
