Fun loving one though
Saw FLC live at the Bristol Carling Acadamy years ago, Huwie is a cool guy.

No you won’t get anything near 420 amps out of it with a 1mm wire.To get to 260A I was booting the volts right up (34v) and this was on setting C7 (C10 is max and should deliver 420Amps!). So clearly something not right.

Wire speed/size has much more influence over current than voltage does. Changing the voltage alone won’t give you drastic increases.
I don’t know how it works mate to be honest with supply going in to what you get out and in what ratio. I know it makes a difference but by how much I’m not sure.Just reading up on Saturated current density now.
Sets max is 420A at 35v at 40% DC, as you say with a 400V supply.
I presume a 5% increase in supply should equate to another 21A of output.
You two crack me up. LolI presume at the top end the efficiency is non linear but probably not by much. With a small 5% different in input I’d of thought the impact of any decrease in efficiency is going to be fairly small (at the top end the set might even be more efficient). Therefore 5% input increase is more or less an output increase of 5%.
5% 0f 420 is 21.

I don’t understand this Matt.No spray transfer at all but the current was right up to expected levels and no Globular
Is your wire new when I put a new role of wire in my mig last week it was a night and day difference to the last role I had in itLot's of messing around with settings ensued.
No difference, Globular most of the time. Couldn't get the current up even with very high wire feed settings.
Finally decided to put it in Synergic mode. @HughF and I had played about with this setting last weekend with poor results but we were of course using the light.
This time in Synergic (set on 20/80) it worked really well.
No spray transfer at all but the current was right up to expected levels and no Globular at all, it stayed in SCT across the entire range.
The issue with Synergic is that I can't tell you the wire feed (it never felt excessive though). Strange how in manual it doesn't seem to deliver the current that the settings would suggest.
I hit 277A on 32v in Synergic at one point and still solidly in SCT. I'm wondering if this is a result of the heavy vs universal? I was reading last night that 18% C02 is the limit for spray to work. So maybe the next bottle will be Universal.
Doesn't really matter, the SCT welds were punching in deep and the spatter was nothing like it was before.

Id replace it then my mig wasn't welding too good put the new role in it and it was like a new welderNo, it’s an old roll that came on the machine, unknown age.

The Lincoln one is what I got I got it for £10+vat for a 5kg or £15+vat for a 15kgFor the small outlay it seems a no brainer.
I’ll get some next week and try it out.
