Hey, guys
I have been having trouble with wheel spin when plowing snow due to the plow on my garden tractor not being quite wide enough. Snow falls behind the end of plow when it is angled and the rear wheels just begin slipping.
This is frustrating when you are trying to make progress, especially uphill.
I have weights and chains on the rear wheels and a rear mounted tool box full of metal to add more weight. (I would rather have it slip a little than break something in the rear axle...so Im trying to find a balance between slip and grip)
I decided on adding 10.5" to the ends of the plow. originally it measured 42", or about 1 meter.... Now Ive got about 5' to push with, or about 1.5m
The new plow ends are taller, too, which I think will help....
I added some 3/16 stock I had from a garden tiller height adjuster bar, cutting two lengths for the scraper on the bottom edge.
I tried it out this morning back blading some loose gravel and it certainly seems to make a difference.
Before I needed to make 4 passes just to clear the width of the driveway....(its a long driveway too!) now Im hoping to cut that down to 2 passes with a clean up run on each side.
I made the extensions from a used plow I found on craigslist locally....though I felt guilty about cutting up a good plow, I will be using the supports, mounts and plow arm for another project in the future.
I tried to improve the plow without creating something that was too wide for the tractor.
thanks for lookin
