Anyone know anything about generators here?
I have a small 2.3kw generator that is not pushing out any power. It's a Silverline 637925 with a Honda clone engine, 230/110V output. Although it says Silverline, I'd guess it just a generic Chinese thing that appears with many different names.
I took a bit of a punt on it when I bought it, expecting it to be a non runner due to stale petrol, but it seems to run OK. I took the front panel off, and found that there was a capacitor missing, and a burned out connection (the burnt connection was one of the capacitor wires), so I have tried a couple of different ones, and I can only get a few volts out of it. I get a reading of about 4.5V AC where the capacitor should fit, and I have tried a 12.5uf, and a 20uf capacitor but still no real output. I connected them both in series and in parallel, but still the most I get out of it is about 5 ish volts.
It has no AVR circuit, just the capacitor, so I would think that the value is fairly important, as this obviously feeds the excite winding. Any ideas what value I could try? There is a space in the casing where the capacitor should be fitted, and judging by the curved mounting webs, the original was about 50mm dia. The new ones that I tried were about 35mm or so. Not sure if the physical size is significant or not?
Anything else I should be looking at?
