Had a job this morning welding some 10mm plates to some 100 x 100 x 6 SHS, material was just what we had laying round and heavier than it needs to be, a bit much for my mig so gave them some stick, its not structural but its a paying job so wants to look decent, just one run with a 3.2 is enough for these.
Get the current and speed right and the slag will fall off, you can see it peeling here, held an open arc rather than touch welding, that's why there is a bit of spatter, but its quite loose.
Quick rub with a flat bolster and a wire brush takes of the spatter,

And this is what they are, stands for grinders, someone else can paint them, I don't do paint.
