I had a bargain on Ebay a few years ago - bought a Knott Avonride 3500kg single axle with t bar chassis. Brand new and unused. The company selling it had taken off a large compressor and truck mounted it hence the spare axle.
The reason I wanted a 3.5 ton single axle trailer was for offroad and onroad use. I will be carrying wood so will often reach the 3.5 ton weight limit.
The problem is the wheels and tyres. They are only 14" rims but are huge - almost the same diameter as my landrover wheels and tyres overall. Tyre size is 215 R 14 C 8 ply. The load rating is 116/112 which means I can only carry 2.5 tons overall. From lots of Internet searching I can't find any 14" tyres that go up to the 127+ rating I need.
I think I will have to up the wheel size to 17.5" and use small lorry tyres. Plenty in that size. The problem is finding 17.5" x 6 or 7" wheels in a 205mm pcd 6 stud. Trailer wheels are deep dished where as lorry wheels are the other way around!
