Went to visit a mate today, he lives in Teepee Valley, which is not far from Llandeilo.
Loaded up my trailer with some gas bottles, a G Wagon diesel engine plus a load of spares, hooked it up to the Disco and off we go
Have only been there once before so bunged the nearest post code in as couldn't remember the route there from Llandeilo.
So tooting along the various country lanes following the Google maps directions thinking to myself that none of the roads look familiar but as it's been a while didn't think too much about it, last turn off there was a dead end sign but as he lives at the bottom of the valley it sort of made sense so carried on.
Ended up in a farm yard at the end of this tarmac road with Google maps telling me to carry on through the farm yard and out the other side.
Looking across the valley I could actually see my mates caravan behind some trees. Quick.phone call and he confirms it has vehicular rights of way but it could be 'interesting' with the trailer on the back.
Undeterred I pressed on and Google maps actually had the route right to his caravan.
However while the first part was fairly easy going, the last 100yds was a complete nightmare and the Disco failed to get the trailer up the track, it was a stone surface, quite steep, very uneven so you couldn't go fast but just couldn't get enough grip and couldn't go any further forward. Once stopped there was insufficient grip to stay put and it all started sliding back down the track, the only option was to put it in reverse and try and not to ram the trailer into the bank
My mate had a good laugh at my expense, taking the p.... cos the LR couldn't get up, all good natured of course. Managed to redeem the Discos honour eventually but there were a few bottom clenching moments
I know you see all these stories of SatNavs taking stupid peeps off tarmac, looks like I was nearly one of them
