Dump site contracts are awarded by the council to private companies to manage. The companies make a profit- amount unknown by me.
Is this the best use of C/tax revenue, or is it just the path of least resistance/get rid of the problem mentality by the council?
We have all seen good stuff thrown away at these sites. Most items dumped there have a value, and not just the scrap steel.
As a council tax payer are we getting good value, or not? How difficult would it be for the job to be done "in house" by local councils?
If the private companies can make a profit, then why not the council?
I'm guessing these companies have two income streams. One being the cash income from the council and the other being the profit made from recycling the waste.
At my site you cannot take car parts, there is a limit of 75kg of rubble every 6 month period (in my case small stones from digging the garden). No tyres- this is probably all sites? If I find any bits asbestos in the garden it's a one off visit only you can not go again again ever, regardless of how small the amount. You are not allowed to go to a different site.
Any ideas or suggestions? What if anything, do you think would be an improvement? Has fly tipping increased due to local authority restrictions in any way?
