I remember as a callow youth in the '80s the four minute warning went off in Coventry in the wee small hours. Turned out some muppet had forgotten to switch it to test before showing new starter at the Police station how it worked. If it ever went wrong there you have absolutely nothing to worry about
You wont even know when it happened........
What did Coventry have that required that sort of siren, that the police controlled ?I remember as a callow youth in the '80s the four minute warning went off in Coventry in the wee small hours. Turned out some muppet had forgotten to switch it to test before showing new starter at the Police station how it worked.
It woke everyone up, including me, people out in the streets panicking and crying etc. My mum banged on the bedroom door to tell me and say I needed to get up. I replied "and do what?" silence was the reply so I turned over and went back to sleep.
I think the only thing to say in defence of those flapping is that this was Coventry, and only 30 odd years after the war. So plenty old enough to remember sirens in the night.
I don't know to be honest, although that massive munitions store which is/was under Edge Hill is pretty close. What did Coventry have that required that sort of siren, that the police controlled ?
If its a top tier COMAH site they will have a well developed emergency plan that will involve all the blue lights at the very earliest opportunity. This will have been agreed with all the blue lights and will include all local hospitals etc etcwe have a nasty coment in our area for our yearly warning letters thats if you get them
we have the air raid sirens ready to go in an emergency
if we have a gas leak dont worry, it will be too late before you hear them.
what we will do first is try to contain it by our in house fire and gas escape crews
until it gets out of hand then we may call the fire briggard for help as by this time it will be out of our control
then we will turn on the sirens
for you that sleep downstairs it will be too late as you will be dead
if you hear the sirens stay upstairs or you will be dead
venture outside you will be dead
dont worry as we stock the bopal gas in our plant as well as other dangerous chemicals on site
thats how we had our last fire we put 2 chemicals in leaking vats on top of each other
our crews did there best to contain the fire whilst civilian's phoned for the fire briggade
Not only that, but they'll regularly have your colleagues on site sniffing around and poking at things they don't like the look of, and that is a frightening prospect for any site that doesn't have its house in orderIf its a top tier COMAH site they will have a well developed emergency plan that will involve all the blue lights at the very earliest opportunity. This will have been agreed with all the blue lights and will include all local hospitals etc etc
Lots of people knew last time it went wrong, they changed the name so everyone would forget though. You wont even know when it happened........
they failed and ive got realy good photos of the start of chemical fire then i left before it got to this stageIf its a top tier COMAH site they will have a well developed emergency plan that will involve all the blue lights at the very earliest opportunity. When i was a kid i lived near an army barracks, every so often there would be an air raid siren going off.
