Anyone here know about Yaskawa spindle motors?
Are they basically just induction motors and thus can be driven from a normal VFD?
I have a large Yaskawa UAASKD 11CZ1 motor, I also have the drive but I am reluctant to go to the bother of wiring/mechanically hooking everything up for the drive to crap out on me in short order.
I have at the moment a Yaskawa VFD on the lathe driving the spindle motor via a gearbox but I was thinking the yaskawa spindle motor may be a better option if/when I redo the lathes controller/wiring etc but I only want to use that motor if it is possible to run it from a normal type VFD rather than a much more expensive spindle drive type VFD.
There is one issue, the motor I think is 230v 3 phase and the VFD I currently am using is 415V, not sure if I could connect a transformer on the output of the VFD to drop it down to 230v for the motor, I think that unlikely but....
Anyway any thoughts?
Pic of motor etc below.
