Yamaha Kodiak 700 no start - backfires from throttle body

looking for some advice/suggestions...from what I can read a backfire from throttle body is timing related but not sure where to start looking...
getting fuel and spark
no engine light or codes showing, although the engine light does flash on and off when turning over, not sure if it has always done this??
can see the injector spraying fuel, plus eventually ends up running out the exhast port when turning over, maybe too much fuel??
spark looks strong, although something I'm not sure of is for the first second (maybe less) of cranking the spark is really fast then it slows down to look in sync with the sound of the engine turning over
if I disconnect any of the sensors (throttle position sensor etc) I thought that was meant to stop it sparking, what happens is it still sparks but really fast
coil reads 0.3 and 20k
the air idle control valve gets really hot just with the ignition turned on so maybe that's stuck? It does the same backfiring/no start with that removed and disconnected tho so don't think that's the problem

it started fine last time it was used, took it out the trailer, moved it 20ft and it's never started since

Can’t help with the fault. How do you find the 700? I had its little brother, absolute rubbish. Didn’t like water, wouldn’t reverse up hills. No engine braking, terrible when going down hills loaded.If you drive through deep vegetation, it got wrapped round the axles and would heat up and go on fire! Not good in a forest

it has an easy life tbh so can't really say, was a replacement for a 400 big bear that got stolen (**Language**ers cut a field fence to avoid taking it past the house!)
engine braking seems fine but again no real pressure...
right now tho it's definitely in the bad books
