Hi,
It is time to try and sort out the roof area of my 1989 Fiat Uno or "Fiat's hot hatch of the 80's"
There is the roof metal and another panel underneath spot welded to the roof which the sunroof bolts to. What has happened is rust started between the two panels and worked it's way out. To do this properly I had to separate the panel that holds the sunroof from the roof. I cut the rotten roof sections out and made up plates which I put a flange on as seen from pictures below. The plate is 1mm steel and roof is 0.8mm again as seen from pictures below.
After reading all the information on this site I think the best thing to do is to stitch weld both panels together. Maybe just do a little section at a time I also have a piece of brass I can put under the roof to help absorb the heat.
I have one question though, I will start the weld on the flange of the 1mm plate I made up and move the torch towards the 0.8mm roof section. My question is when I start does the weld need to go fully through the flange or would it be more like on spot welding two plates together where it doesn't fully come through the second plate of metal. Hope the way I explained this makes sense.
Any comments or advice,
Thanks.
