Hello everyone!
First off, the welder is a 105A (though some say 120A capacity).
· Output: 105 ADC 19.5 VDC
· 20% Duty cycle
· max OCV 28 VDC
Ok, so here's the situation. I bought a flux core welder from a guy a while back. I have completed several projects with it successfully. Well the other day I started having intermittent welding problems. When I moved the cable from the welder to the gun around, the welder would work depending on the position of the cable. It was obviously a connection problem in the welder lead going to the mig gun.
So I took the lead apart. It turns out that the guy I bought the welder from had put a meter extension on the lead from the welder to the mig gun. The original lead wire from the welder was connected to a new section of wire going to the gun with a butt connector. This butt connector was not rated for the kind of current that it saw, so it melted and failed.
My question is, what sized wire should I replace this mess with? It looks like the original lead wire was 10mm and the extended section is 10awg. (sorry for the awg, I'm American.) The wires are similarly sized, but the 10awg does look a little bit smaller.
The total distance from the welder to the mig gun is about 10', or 3.048 meters.
I hope I was clear in my explanation.
Thanks for your help!
