I am a complete novice looking to buy an auto-darkening helmet for mig use. Mainly light fabrication with thin plate so I will need something that works well down to about 25A.
Am I right in thinking that most of the cheaper models you cannot replace the batteries on? As I will only be using it a handful of times a year I don't really want to buy one that I have to throw away when the batteries expire.
Some helmets are advertised as solar powered, needing no batteries. Is this correct or do they still have a sealed in battery as well?
Can anyone recommend a helmet for a budget up to £80 that would fit the bill, or should I buy something slightly cheaper, say a Sif-Lite or Parweld and just accept that it will have a limited life?
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance - Paul
