Hi Guys
Just in the process of purchasing my first lathe and have an opportunity to view two. I have looked at Myfords but think I need something with a little more grunt, also Myfords seem very expensive. I have checked out www.lathes.co.uk but would be interested in other members opinions.
The spec of these two machines are as follows:
Boxford CUD – possibly a MkIII, as stated as 5” x 20” capacity, i.e. larger diameter and longer bed than the more common models. 3 and 4 Jaw chucks, faceplate, vertical slide, chuck guard, standard tool post, splash guard, mounted on industrial stand Single phase motor.
Boxford Type A
Fitted with Norton screw cutting gearbox and power cross feed, 3 and 4 jaw chucks, faceplate, 10 mm and 13 mm tailstock drill chucks, QC tool post, travelling and fixed steadies and catch plate. Mounted on steel cabinet with three phase motor, inverter and variable speed control attached. To be sold as a complete set. Tipped and HSS tools also available.
I believe both have been well looked after and at the moment I am leaning towards the Model A. with all the extra tooling. Would be grateful what other people think and what sort or price. Thanks Steve
