Wheel Bearing Options

ECP is showing two options for fag wheel bearings with a £20 difference. I can't see any difference in the actual product or fitment.

Both say they fit my van.

Anyone with more experience in such matters know?

It's a 2017 ford transit connect. 1.5L diesel 5 speed manual.

I think this is compounding my gearbox noise issues and maybe making it seem worse than it is.

Search and you'll find threads on Ford forums ref OEM Ford straw/honey coloured gearbox oil being the stuff to put in. This rather than aftermarket Comma red stuff for example even though it's the same EP number.

I've personally experienced it. Comma stuff from local factor made it hard to change gear. Went to the Ford dealer who even questioned why I wanted the Ford stuff as they themselves use aftermarket oil on servicing etc. I insisted. Gear change issues cured.

I've been to ford and got the genuine article for £61

Brad, the price difference on the original ones posted up may be down to abs/ non abs rings in the bearings. Ford keep more info than the motor factors.

big problems.

Took driveshaft out and done oil seal.

Can't get knucke/upright to line up with wishbone/control arm ball joint.

Had the lot apart twice. Only thing i can think is driveshaft is too long, maybe the cv joint has pulled apart.

I've got no linear travel on the driveshaft it seems to be just locked at one length.

Assumed it was because it was a new driveshaft in november

CV JOINT HAS INDEED COME APART

PROBLEM IS I CANT GET IT BACK TOGETHER AND THE BEARINFS SEEM TO JUST FLOATING ON THE THREE SHAFTS. There's nothing holding them in place.

The outer part of the joint holds them in place, should go back together unless a needle roller or three has escaped, unfortunately I am away for the weekend, wifes birthday, a BIG one, not 100 though otherwise I would be more than happy to pop over, not tonight though!

Some brute force will be needed to get the inner joint back together.

The cup is usually peened over a bit so the shaft doesn't simply fall apart, but they often partially come out when taking them out the gearbox, and just need a bit persuasion to get them back in.

No needle rollers, the three spherical "bearings" have plain bores! They're just races

You need to offer one of the bearings into the outer joint at an angle then sort of offer the second one followed by the third usually. Sometimes there is a wire clip in the body that’s supposed to retain the shaft .There was a post on here recently from someone with the same problem . I would remove the joint from the gearbox and reassemble on the bench

Exactly what i had to do in the end. couldn't see a wire clip.

I was hesitant to keep removing the driveshaft because i'd just replaced the oil seal

It was the wheel bearing.
There was no play but on taking apart the races were trashed.

I've still got a hum from the gearbox at high speed but it's like 1000x better

Molykote GN grease ordered for when i do drivers side which surely can't be far behind the passenger.

Passenger side stuff tends to fail earlier, always in the potholes and rubbish bits of road

Plus the passenger side does more mileage due to roundabouts.

From my limited experience of that era connect the ratio between n/s and o/s wheel bearings is 2:1
