I started my working life as a welder back in 1970 and was issued with a standard handshield. As the years progressed and I moved to other firms, I switched to a standard headshield, eventually coming across a smaller, lightweight version that has been a faithful friend for around 40 years. I also recently bought an auto-dim headshield which I have to say makes life a lot easier but, that said, I still often fall back on my small headshield, particularly if I have to work positionally. Probably like a lot of us, I also have a collection of these flatpack, fold-together cheap fibre handshields that are often supplied with new welding sets.
