What's it called & where do I get it ?

Hi all

I need to replace the 'sieve' on the coolant drain on my milling machine. It's basically a small plate of ally, approx 1.5mm thick with 2 mm holes drilled into it (camera is ******ed so can't post a pic). I've tried a search for grill & mesh but that brings up the fishing net type stuff and what I'm after is more metal than holes, if that makes sense ?

Any idea of what the stuff might be called and where I'd get it.

Perforated aluminium sheet.

Microwave cookers use a perforated steel mesh in the door so try Freecycle.

Just sits over the top of the tank to filter out big lumps i gather?

For a small bit, id expect someone here might have a few square inches kicking around....

Sounds like perforated sheet. If you are after a small amount i think i've seen it in b&q......but that probably costs as much as a large sheet from somewhere else.

Ring up someone like Nova Metals, tell them you are going to be needing a few sheets to get their interest and get them to send you a sample.
Most places send samples out without asking any questions

There is a fine mesh used for bridging holes in bodywork available cheap. This type of thing easily cut with scissors to use for strainer.

For the amount you need (I'm guessing it's a 2" disc or so), you could probably make some from a piece of ally sheet about 1.5mm thisc with a 2mm drill...

Thanks for the replies guys. I'll try a couple of local suppliers and if I don't get any joy then now that I know what to search for has turned up a few hits on Ebay.

ian, the bit I need is 6.5" x 1.5" - that's probably 200+ holes, ******ed if I'm drilling all them

I use stainless steel pan scrubs, stuffed in the cavity under a plate of expanded metal cut from a loudspeaker grill, it makes an efective low cost (25p) universal filter, I replace them every 5yrs aprox.

I've got some in the workshop somewhere. Ali with about 6mm holes in or think there is stainless with 8mm holes.

I still have the marks on the side of my head after the missus found out

Iv`e got some steel perf sheet, I would guess at about 3mm holes, more than welcome to a bit of that is it does the job
