Hi everyone
I'm worrying about what's happening during my welding adventures .
Today nothing to do so I cut two pieces of angle iron 4mm thick ,tack together and started practicing some 6013 vertical up.
Dial the welder to around 60/70A DCEP since using 2.5mm rods
Managed to blow an hudge hole in the angle iron ...
After various attempts always reducing the amps it was working fine but I can't understand where is the problem.
Ended up dial-in the welder all the way down to is minimum current setting , remove the knob and reinstall it matching the line of the knob to the 20A reference on the welder
After done that was almost fine , but I can't get good results yet .
Made some other apparently good looking beads with the machine set up around 75A but I'm getting lots of slag inclusions, wormholes and other things I would like to avoid.
Later I'll try again and I'll upload pictures because now I can show only a big mess that should be gouged out
Noticed something while welding
I kept a consistent travel speed and angle (almost perpendicular slightly upwards)
Arc length was maybe half rod diameter
Sometimes the sound changed like if I was pushing to much and the arc kinda shut off prior exploding and restart
I'm concerned about because I usually don't weld on something very critical but sometimes happens and I don't know where is the problem
If it's me ,the rods, the welder ,the metal or other issues involved
I don't know might be the welder? That's a problem I'm noticing since 2 months ago when I worked on some thick stuff and I blown through, the welder can manage 6010 easily but it's not made for that .
Those issues began after have cleaned the ground clamp, the electrode holder, refreshed the leads connections and replaced the power cord
Prior doing this maintenance the welder wasn't able to run 6010 very easily
I would like to need to weld something serious and ending up with defective welds
I should make an air reservoir for an engine driven air compressor in the future and that's something critical
Hope in some help
