Eurotorch is a standard higher-end units use. That allows you to swap torches.
As an example, my MIG feeder has a Tweco connector. I have a #4 (400 amp) gun with a 15' lead. It will take 0.035 (0.8mm) through 0.045 (1.1mm) wire. I am looking to get a 200A torch for 0.023 to 0.030 wire. Having a standard connector allows me to swap easily. Also, the 400A torch is about 17" long and with the #00 wire hanging off it it weighs about 5 lbs. Will be nice to have a small, 12', light gun I can swap in.
There are several standards. Eurotorch and Tweco seem to be the most common. Tweco is simple but has a separate connector for the trigger. I think the eurotorch has it internal.
A small MIG does not need a un-pluggable torch as it is all the machine needs. You usually see the connectors on units 200A and above. For smaller units, it is no big deal as one torch can handle the wire range.
One other advantage to a standard connector is replacing the liner is much easier.
thanks for the explanation, shenion. I'm going to have to move up at some time to a decent unit. Could kick myself as only recently I passed on a huge MIG, cant remember the name, but something you'd see in a body shop complete with big bottle for £200, less than I paid for this hobby jobby! Live and learn.
