What to seal this with ?

Any suggestions as to the best way to seal this water union in situ
It's a steel pipe into ali manifold ... (placed part way in for ref only)
Its a tight knock in fit but under pressure you can see it still leaks overtime
ptfe tape worked for a few months but a true sealant? might be a better idea
Doesn't need to be removed either, so permanent fitment would be fine

locktite requires a slight airgap to cure[ loose fit ]so watch what u use

Also i would be weary of a truly permanent seal as Ali and steel will corrode?

Ah not if there is a seal of glue between them

That's why there's so little of it in the bottle its needs the air to stay liquid

Loctite do an anerobic pipe sealant, I think its '511'.
We used it on a job last year, it was specified that we used that particular sealant. The co it was for dont mess around, so I guess its good stuff. We didn't have any comebacks with any of the joints either.

Not sure if its suitable for a knock in fitting though...

What about getting a O ring groove cut in the alloy part?

I've used the loctite thread sealant which is very good, but for a straight push in I'm not sure how it would fare.

A thin bead of instant gasket around the bottom perhaps?

ive used threadlock on a fair few things loose fit , then wished i hadnt when had to remove it. the only way is with heat

Yeah, the thread lock still works, I've used it on a few bearings when I've had no bearing lock to hand and it's been ok. I was referring to the white ptfe based sealant, or the yellowy coloured one for coarser threads.

I can't see why they wouldn't work, but I have only used them on threaded connections. Instant gasket is made to work on plain mating surfaces so I presume it may be more suited?

I would suggest Blue Hylomar. It is a great sealant and doesn't quite 'set', so if it ever moves slightly it'll probably still be fine, whereas some compounds would tend to just break/snap.

I'd try an o-ring personally, looks like enough of a groove for you to get one to sit in there.

Hermitie or rtv sealant would be my choice.

I'm with Mr Stobbs, sump gasket/valve cover sealant. I'm sure it's the loctite stuff I use, with no problems. And that's been used between 2 different metals, steel sump and ally block as well as ally to ally from head to valve cover.

Can't be enough of a difference to ruin the interferancr fit in the first place so I doubt its an issue. If it was, the steel stub would fall out, I would expect.
