Hi All,
I have zero experience in Milling or Milling Machines but am very keen to learn. I've been doing as much reading and youtube watching as possible to get my head around it all. I'm looking for a smallish Machine and this Tom Senior has popped up local to me, from what I've been reading a Tom Senior M1 is a pretty solid first Milling Machine. I anticipate doing working on both aluminium and mild steel probably not thicker than 5mm on either, although that might change once I get into it!
From reading online I think I've made the following observations;
It only has a basic vertical head on it, which limits the space between spindle and table, also means no angled drilling/milling.
It's currently single phase which means no speed control? Although the 3 phase motor comes with it so that could be changed.
Am i right in thinking this is a horizontal milling machine with a vertical head on it? Or would it be possible to change the head at a later date for more versatility if i were to find a compatible Bridgeport type head for example?
Am I right with my observations or can someone correct me?
I'm going to arrange to go and see it in the next couple of days - are there any things I should specifically look out for? And in general does this look like a goer?
Any advice greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
Matt
