Hi all,
I'm very new to this forum, and very new to MIG welding too. Last time was 10 years ago at university!
I'm in the very overcrowded boat of people who can't believe how much a garage charges for welding repairs, so keen to give it a go myself.
The big heap of rolling steel is a Renault Trafic van, with some pretty serious rust destroying some box sections of chassis at the rear where the leaf spring bolts to. I measured a piece of the existing metal, and its is around 1.2mm thick. That seems a bit thin to me. Anyway, I plan to cut a large section of the chassis out, and fabricate a new piece by folding flat sheet.
Question is, what type of metal to use? Steel I presume. Is any particular type better than another for this application, or will mild steel do ok?
Thanks heaps for any advice or help.
Chris
