Hi,
I've been toying with the idea of using the wet sandblasting approach to strip a car bodyshell i'm restoring of old paint and rust. I saw a sandblasting attachment for a karcher pressure washer which was advertised as being able to strip rust and paint from metal, stone etc.
To me this seems like a great idea because:
1) Its cheap
2) It avoids heat distortion of panels
3) There is no dust
However there is the downside of the wet sand getting into the various crevices but i'm sure a good pressure wash after the blast with water mixed with an anti rust additive would put the shell in a good state for priming. In this respect its no worse than conventional sandblasting.
Ideally i dont want to acid dip the shell because i dont want all the hollow sections stripped and left uncoated, and there is the possibility of not all the acid being removed from the hollow sections. E-coating would be good but cant afford it.
If this is a no go i'll probably just sand blast it.
p.s. great forum and really good info.
