Wescol guage accuracy.

Hi all,

Was helping a friend out today weld a few holes up on his car, it was mostly a failure... but I digress

The gauge on my regulator (one of the wescol ones from weld equip) is now reading just above 0, just wondering how accurate people have found these regulators as I have read a few threads about there being a fair bit of gas left when guages read zero.

So am I almost out or got a fair bit left?

From my experience there is a reasonable amount left when the gauge gets to zero (I kept going with my TIG argon for quite a while after the gauge showed it as empty).

Its the same with most gauges. There will be a minimal amount left, but you never know when it will run out for sure, as the final amount runs out you may have a a few un-noticed bits of porosity, which will get worse as you go.
If your doing anything critical, or where you cant grind out any bad weld, swap the cylinder.

Would a better gauge on the regulator give more accurate results?

With regards to cylinder pressure not really as the resolution is just as much of an issue as accuracy.
