i want to weld some 80mm x 8mm flat bar stock to the ends of some 50x100 box section.
other than cutting the box section 100% square how do i ensure the flat bar stock is square on the end of the box section when i weld it?
using a square will prove difficult as the flat bar is wider and longer than the box section is wide and high. but not wide enough to use to get a good indication if its flat.
i did think of trying to use a spirit level to level the box section on top of the flat bar but that would mean i have 100x50 box sticking 2 metres up vertically in my shed. surely theres an easier way to do it im not seeing?
another thing is cutting the steel square, my supplier has offered to cut it all for me but using a horizontal band saw will probably mean the sizes will be a little off square.
i did think of buying one of these https://www.machinemart.co.uk/p/raptor-355-355mm-tct-cut-off-saw-/
but seems a lot of money to spend on something i will probably only use once.
i have grinders and hand tools already so i could true up and skewed work but im thinking if i had the saw and set it up properly to cut it myself i can get it right the first time.
what do you peeps think?
