So, should I consider myself lucky to not be affected by welding galv at all?
I have breathed enough fumes - too often I haven't even cleaned it first where quality it's important.
I saw this from ChuckE recently, using hydrochloric acid to remove the galv....
Seems like a fairly safe and convenient way to remove the half, including hard to grind areas. Comments section says maybe only a couple of minutes is required to remove the Galveston and not the 24hrs or so he used.
Not particularly safe at all, the danger of handling and disposing of hydrochloric acid aside, the galv dissolving in the acid results in a flammable gas. Much safer and quicker to just grind it off, it is horrible to weld but it's welded all the time building commercial vehicles.
