hi there, we've been using a mig in my shop for a few months now and i was wondering what kind of wire is good for joining dissimilar steels. Stick has the 7018 or 6018, is there an equivalent for that for mig?
kiswel is Korean Iron and Steel. Its not the best but it should be OK.
When you say dissimilar I start thinking of mild steel to stainless. If thats what you mean you need a 309L stainless wire ER309L or ER309LSi (better wetting) and Ar + 2.5% CO2 gas.
thanks bob and technial, dissimilar for us would be steels of unsure composition to steels of another unsure composition. i'm involved with heavy earthmoving machinery, so the materials we work with could be high carbon to mild to those with manganese content to whatever.
