Hi all have recently decided to get into mig welding as I have a landrover discovery with lots of holes in the sills e.t.c
I have managed to end up with 2 mig welders (don't ask lol)
The first one was supposed to be a sealey. Looks like an old mighty mig 100 mk2 from the pictures I can see on the net. Someone has repainted it so it has no logos or labels anywhere.
The other is branded as a Maypole turbomig 140 fan cooled. Inside it has the same wire spool and the same wire feed motor as the other.
Looking in weldequips shop under spare parts they are identical to the spools and wire feeders in the Sealey/Siegen range.
The (sealey) welder has a standard hobby torch on it with the gas switch in the handle but also a gas solenoid in the welder itself not sure why
The maypole just has switch in the torch handle.
They both don't feed the wire well as they both slip on the rollers.
I have stripped both down and cleaned the rollers and blown out the plastic liners but they both still slip.
I have ordered a steel liner replacement for now to see if there is any improvement.
What I really want to know is...Is it worth doing a euro torch conversion on either/both or even just replace the torches with new standard hobby ones?
Both have a push button rather than a trigger which isn't very easy to feel with gloves on.
Great forum by the way I followed a link off www.landyzone.co.uk
they were right on when they said about the wealth of info on here.
looking forward to any responses you are kind enough to send my way.
Oh and by the way if I find I can weld to an ok standard I will be looking to get a decent welder sometime in the future
