I am attempting to repair the body work of a T25 though getting nowhere fast. I have practiced welding thin steel (purchased from a motor factors) using a butt join and plug weld and what a balls up.
I am using a Clarke 135TE Gas Mig Welder, wire speed is set to 5 and a 1/2, power settings to Min and 1. The gas is argon/CO2 mix from Machine mart and I have followed all the instructions on the tutorial. I have managed to complete the but weld but the penetration is poor, I can still see the join between the two pieces on the other side. The weld seems strong even after its been grinded. How can I improve the penetration?
Also..
When I have attempted to plug weld the two pieces, well thats a complete joke, chewing gum would be more effective. I know I am just starting and like any skill it takes time and practice to perfect, but any advice to at least point me in the right direction would be appreciated.
Managed to get the pictures on as web links. Any help or advice is much appreciated.
