ok im just pulling this off another forum that i have it posted on, lemme know what u guys think. ive been in korea for the last 7 weeks so no progress lately but atm i just need to flip her on her side and invest in some wire cups to strip the underseal off!
Well i have had her about 6 months and finally i have got the project underway. Intending on doing the full works, going back to bare metal all over.
So far i have stripped the seats and rubber mats etc and so far floor looks pretty good! found a little rust here and there and one of the doors is gone but with a replacement lined up things are on track for now!!
ignore the fugly truck man it will be going once i find somewhere to put it!
damage to the door due to stupid electric window on one side!??!?!
Well this weekend decided to lift the engine out. Made all the more fun when the pulley block decided that it only worked in one direction once we had weight on it, up!
with some creative thinking finally managed to get it on the floor!
So with her now looking like a 4x4
I thought the back was high!
Next weekend hopefully will get the doors, wings, dash out. Then i am gonna get rid off the running gear and get the shell on a dolly ready for the fun job of stripping underseal!!!
luckily the holes are in the door and i have a straight swap!
here is the only other bit that concerns me the back left arch its not bad but i want to leave her mint!
other than that here some photos from before i ripped her to bits!
my 9n needs a full detail as its covered in tar but once that is done il get some pics up too!
Little bit of an up date
Got these in the mail this weekend
cold gavinising for when i eventually get some body work done.
Stared by taking the bumpers and grill off this weekend
then i decided to take the dash out
One the dash was out i could get easy access to the window seal so i thought it would be a good idea to get it a go to get it out!
It went well! I was thinking of getting new glass anyway but i hadnt checked if it was possible it would need to be now!
was dreading taking the window out as it usually harbors a ton of rot around the window seal, i couldn't believe how perfect this one was!
By the end of the day i just had some of the wiring loom stripped and both doors off, i started to try to remove one of the wings but with all the screws holding the plastic guards on i am gonna need to get the wheels off and the angle grinder out!
Hopefully some better progress next weekend, getting the steal to put the shell on a dolly so should get all the running gear off and hopefully the rest of the electrics.
Well the usual weekend update for the caddy, once again not a ton done but il get some picks up.
First i had the fun job of removing the wings, so after investing in some vice grips to remove the rusted out screws.
greeted with a fairly rust free area.
The joys of scraping off 18year old seam sealer hiding screws
inner wing is rust free which is great
Got the wishbones and struts off too.
So the caddy is officially in bits!
Im hoping the tailgate can be repaired to mint!
Got the fuel tank out so welding of the frame can begin next weekend
Finally got rid of the stupid looking truck man, starting to feel bad pulling it to pieces
If any one is interested in a newly referbed set of 13" BBS RAs with new pirrelli rubber lemme know.
How much are these worth? I intend on running a bigger brake set up so 14" is what ill need so no need for these.
O and on the off chance anyone needs a truckman its urs for a tin of nitormors or really if u can if u come get it. if not its going to the skip next week.
Another weekend of work where i didn't get enough done, but it was my birthday on the Sunday so i had to go for dinner and stuff so i dont mind.
Started out by removing the back suspension, introduced the whole lot to the angle grinder cause everything was rusted on!
after a bit of help from my dad a fair but of swearing and the like finally got the back axle off
Noticed how who ever put the clips on to the side of her for a cover managed to put a dent at every spot!
Found the dreaded rust finally somewhere on the van!
Don't think this is too bad a little hole will have to make up a plate and weld it in. i think i spotted another hole under her as well.
Due to no enough time only just got my dolly started
Dunno if there will be any progress next week because exams are looming!
Axle stands make me nervous so i want her on a dolly ASAP!
well couldnt have the van sitting on axle stands all month while i have exams so i managed to stop uni work this week end to get her onto a frame
Probably totally unfounded but i just have visions of the caddy falling off these axle stands
Soi started making brackets to bolt onto the back leaf spring mounts, ignore the bad welding here and there lol.
Decided to make the frame from 40mm box but went a bit over kill on the brackets as i am going to turn the whole thing on its side!
After making the brackets started on the frame.
The trickest bit was marrying the bracets and frame together but it turned out pretty good:
So tidyed the garage and it will be about a month tilli get anything more done cause of my exams!
