Several years ago I picked up a Record No.6 vice for not very much and this project has been at the back of my mind for a while now. There's three metres of 76 x 38 channel is at work awaiting cutting into manageable lengths so that I can get them into the car before cutting more accurately at home; I have only 10mm or so spare but my FEMI saw has always impressed me.
I've used Autodesk Inventor (I'm fortunate that as an 'educator' I have access to all their software) to model it all and work out the lengths I need. Also used it to help me laser cut a dummy (thin plastic) top and check the bolt holes are in the right place. The circular top is a 250mm diameter laser cut 6mm mild steel disc.
May not get round to actually welding anything for a few weekends yet but I'd be interested in any comments...
I *think* it should be stable enough; didn't want the legs extending forwards at the front so I've got space to move around it.
