After years of happy r-tech ownership, I had a warranty issue which required a return to base to be checked out. As I weld for a living, I went to my local welding supplier and picked up a Lincoln Bester 190c.
This comes highly recommended, but I am struggling to get on with it.
Today, welding 2mm lap joints (Landrover chassis rear section replacement) it was fine on the flat, but when I went to vertical, it was awful. It would weld for about a second ok, before turning into a pigeon poop producing machine.
Things I did to try to sort this: tightened up wire feed clamping force, in case this was too loose and struggling with the way the torch hose was bent (not that bent, in the grand scheme of things) tightened up the spool axle to try to add some more friction there, as it seemed that the wire would jerk off the reel, so be tight, then slack. Changed from 0.6mm to 0.8mm wire, so the wire feeder wasn't working so hard. Changed my settings a lot, but the problem was that it would run fine horizontal, so the settings were pretty good for a ballpark setting.
Steel was all either new, or grinded clean, so that wasn't it either.
Any other things I could try? So frustrating, as it made a good day of progress turn into a rubbishy end.
Only other thing I can think of is swapping the liner, but the machine is only 2 weeks old, so I would hope this is still in good condition.
Thanks for allowing me to pick your brains, and taking up your time with my semi cathartic rant.
