Advice needed as i've forgotton how to stick weld after welding by numbers(MIG!!) for too long. For the last few days i've been making a lean-to building. I made most of it in the workshop with 400amp MIG so i know that part is very strong. The trouble is i have been doing alot of assembly work on site so using my 200amp welding genny. I have been using 2 types of rods and can't seam to get verticals spot on- passible but not spot on!
1st tried 3.2 fincords (6010?) on about 100-110amp. Down was absolutly useless- no penatation so went up. this was much better but the weld was very tall- it didn't go into the corners properly. Why?
2nd try i used 4mm rebadged no-name 6013 at 145amps( these arn't cheap rods, just rebadged by a argricultral supply company). Now on the box it says suitable for vertical down and the welds looked good. I'm just a little worried about how much pennatration i would get going downhand.
All welds into 90degree corners and don't worry about anything falling down as it's very over enginered with plenty of fillets! I just want my arc to be as good as my MIG!
Any ideas/ advice/ abuse greatfully received!
