Universal joints

I need a pair of UJs to make up a drive shaft for a hydraulic winch. Shaft dia is 20mm. Any ideas on where I might find some half decent ones? I was tempted to try steering shaft UJs but unsure if they’d take it

Is it worth messing about with them? The RS joints are cheap and are rated at 600nm, more than enough for a winch drive.

Dan £12 is a waste of money if they end up in the bin, the RS ones for a 20mm shaft were about £30.

It’s been a long day, cheers. I’ll order one. Unsure what to do about the coupling at the winch end, it appears to be a ball coupling with 2 drive dogs to allow some angular misalignment. I’m definitely not paying the 80 odd quid for one of those!!

I wouldn't necessarily trust that. RS have a habit of stating the best figure rather than an accurate one. Looking through the datasheet it implies 600Nm for all but I'd be bloody impressed if you can get 600Nm through a 6mm shaft...

I'd wager the 600Nm is only valid for the largest UJ.

I was trying to find an ntc thermistor seems they have cut right back on info

It’s a 48:1 worm box in the winch so raistically I don’t think it’s going to be pulling huge amounts through the motor itself. I’m a bit peeved I can’t run the motor as it is, close coupled as it’s neat and tidy, but I’ll either have to lift the bumper up so it clears the front cross member or move the bumper out

I doubt the hydraulic stator motor on the winch makes a fraction of that torque but it still needs coupling with something a bit better than a steering UJ.
