Hi guys, I am currently in the process of welding in new zintec steel 1mm sheet into the interior rear wheel arches of my MK6 transit, was wondering what the appropriate rust prevention coats and paints would be.
I am working to a budget and cannot sandblast or use any toxic chemicals as I dont have a proper mask and will be doing the painting and coating in a public yard.
Currently I am planning on:
-Removing rust with grinder
-Performing the patch welding process
Underside:
- Apply an epoxy primer (any advice on good brands)
- Apply sikaflex filler to weld joints
- Apply Hammerite Underbody seal with added waxoyl
Upperside (van interior loading area)
- Apply recommended epoxy primer
- Apply sikaflex filler to weld joints
- Apply Primer (any advice)
- Apply Rustoleum Paint
Essentially just want to stop rust coming back to this area not bothered about looks at all and aim on keeping it reasonably priced. Any advice on wether this process is incorrect missing something, and epoxy primer, primer products that are suitable for this would be very helpful cheers.
