Been helping my stepson repair his Transit for MOT and everything we touch seems to fall apart with rust. So far we have replaced 2 Cills (inner and outer), rebuilt front inner arch, repaired 2 rear quarters and replaced 1 rear wheel arch. This is the front chassis leg, as you can see it is not great.
The top and side are gone so I cut out the rot.
Made a plate to fit and a jig to press what I assume are the crumple zone depressions in (don't know the correct name for them). And welded it in.
Then to the top. Couldn't get in with an angle grinder to remove the rotten section so got my Cut 50 out.
Great tool to use, makes cutting out so much easier. Painted the inside with Dinatrol ML before I closed up the section.
Made a plate and modified the jig to press the crumple zone things and welded it in. Went a bit wonky with the last pressing.
bit etch primmer and it's done until paint.
Just got to repair this side inner wing, rear cross member and a couple of patches underneath and anything else we find then it's done.
