Earlier this year I found a Dutch trucker called William de Zeeuw on YouTube. He works for a Dutch haulage company called “Bring” and spends most of his time trucking loads up to the top of Norway, and his videos alone have caused me to fall in love with Scandinavia.

On the strength of this, I recently bought a camcorder from Amazon and am in the process of designing a bracket to mount it on the dash in my truck, and I also intend to make a bracket to mount my Olympus TG4 Dive camera on my canoe.

Re eLuSiVMiTe’s offer, a diving mate of mine bought one of those clones from an internet site and it cost him about £15. He uses it for diving and I was amazed at the quality of the footage. Considering that lighting is a problem underwater, (basically all the colours are “absorbed” the deeper you go, everything looks a uniform grey colour after about 15 metres, hence why a torch is a must), the footage he took at 15 metres depth at St Abbs was outstanding.

Keep thinking I’ll take loads of pictures and do a write up on how I made a panel, a video of some of the process, etc, etc.

I was going to do a proper video on swapping the Disco turbo and fitting a decat, but the fan belt let go and I spent the morning fixing that, then just cracked on with the turbo

Is that what folk use? Thought they would of used more “professional” type gear for outdoors - distance stuff. Son has a GoPro thing I can try. Thanks for the offer though

Maybe I should expand more of what I was thinking about. Basically it’s golf, based on the course I’m a member of. Idea is to film the holes, how best to play them. Then once that is done have a monthly blog showing the different conditions throughout the year. Film golfers playing, the good the bad and the ugly! An all year round advert for the club. We have a drone filming the course lay out next week, hence my idea of continuing the filming but giving it a more personal touch.

i have a couple fujifilm finepix bridge cameras: one does 720p video, the other 1080.
both have a 20x optical zoom. cant remember the model number, but cost me about £40?
they take standard aa rechargeables.

i also have a panasonic video camera (again, cant remember model number - sorry!) cost me £20, and does 1080 video.


i recently bought a panasonic lumix gh4 mirrorless 4k video camera which is *phenomenal* - cost me £350 though

the best thing about the panasonic cameras is:
they house a wifi adaptor, and will connect direct to your phone, giving remote feed and control.

for golf, i'd go with the finepix. sinply for tbe zoom, and battery convenience.
a pocketfull of rechargeable AA are about the same price as one lumix gh4 battery.
unless you run it off a usb powerbank.

The key issue with making your own videos is largely the editing. It will take longer to edit a video than the real time task you just filmed. Plus of course, faffing about with the camera interrupts the task quite dramatically.

I take my hat off to the regular YouTubers, there's a LOT of work going on behind the scenes. Generally I skip anything with dodgy lighting, camera shake or low quality. After that, it's going to be audio that is the make or break.

Once you've got all that sorted, you really need to be regular as clockwork with your uploads or you'll never build up an audience and noone is going to bombard you with freebies. That for me would be the target - free stuff!

I will get around to it one day....

Just get a camera and give it a go whats the worst that can happen??? If nobody watches at least you have what ever you are working on documented

Lol. Yeah, I haven't got anywhere.



I used to enjoy the editing and it only recently ocurred to me why I no longer do it. Final Cut Pro X, aka iMovie Pro was a total disaster, destroyed my enjoyment, I left the industry. I recently rediscovered my dislike for FCPX when I did a five minute cut that took an hour of swearing at the computer.

Money doesn't motivate me though the prospect of being able to make a living from it does.

As for the free stuff: guilty as charged.

This is the last one I did it’s about 10 minutes of firing up a Lancaster. One thing I found was holding the camera up you don’t realize just how much it weighs!
It was taken with a Cannon t7i with the upgrade 135 lense.

I've been using Shotcut. I do keep making mistakes though. I am slowly learning how to use it.
