I have just done a search for “Towing Dolly” and came across a result-OP by Silas (thanks Malcolm by the way for your recent guidance on search criteria and your amendments).
The OP was posted in Oct 2006. Has anyone made a dolly since Silas’s post?
Malcolm (in his response) has a valid point about hiring, as opposed to making/buying your own. I would never have thought of also contacting farms. I note your point about 20 weekends & the charge being around £35. Are these trailers really expensive? I have just been looking on flea bay, and without watching the item for the end price it is not possible to see what the going prices are.
Today will be my 3rd trip to cannibalise parts from a car about 6 miles away. Although I bought everything I need mechanically, including a nearly new exhaust system all at a very good price, if I had owned or thought about hiring a dolly, I would have took the whole car. That way the wings & doors could have been removed and stored. The engine & box too. What remained could have been sold for scrap, (being either collected, or chopped up with a 9” grinder and carted off in a trailer).
Just as a matter of interest (re non-UK residents) has the price of scrap gone through the roof where you are? Certainly in my area the breakers are weighing all the older stuff in (exporting it to China probably). It is becoming increasingly difficult to obtain parts for older vehicles from the yards for this reason.
