Hi!
I have a small (just me!) woodworking business and have been spending a small fortune on hairpin legs (12mm steel round welded to 3mm steel plate). I messed about with an arc welder with quite poor results and, after another big bill for another set of table legs I decided to upgrade very slightly and get a Sealey MightyMig 100 (excellent reviews on Amazon, £100 ready to go out the box, suitable for max 3mm steel).
I set it up on Thursday and ran a handful of (relatively) nice beads on to 3mm plate, no problem. Then without having changed anything in the set up, or having moved the clamp, it suddenly stopped working - no weld current at all. The fan still runs fine. The overheat light didn't come on, and I tried it after 15 minutes then again an hour later and still no current.
I called Sealey, they said check to see if any wired were loose inside the unit. I checked and everything looked fine so I returned it and received a replacement the very next day...
Just come back in from the garage - I set it up following the instructions to the letter, but there doesn't appear to be any weld current whatsoever (again, fan runs fine). I clamped it right close to the spot I wanted to weld, and the clamp point is nice and shiney. I will say riiiight at the beginning I thought I saw the tiniest hint of a spark but that's it.
I had initially plugged it in to a wound-up extension, and have since tried it through the extension unwound, and direct in to the plug which I believe runs from a 32 AMP cable which comes from the house. Again, no hint of activity at all when I apply the wire to the work piece.
Apologies for my ignorance and thanks in advance for any tips at all about what might be going on!
