Took latest project out for a run today

Hi guys

Finished refurbing my trailer a few days ago and finaly fitted myself a towbar so
i took it out for a good run.
This is the first real trailer i have had and im finding it so usefull already.

I was given the basic chassie that was rather derilict last year and spent winter thinking what purpose i needed it for and set about completly striping it down bolt by bolt repaired what needed it and welded the new top and welded on all the brackets for bit like jocky wheel as they were previousely bolted.

As normal i got carryed away and didnt get pics during the build but here is one
of it hooked up to the car. the bed is 8x4ft

Nice trailer, looks well and you will have everyone wanting stuff shifted.

Check out the requirements for reflective triangles though, can't remember if they are a legal requirement or not, the laws changed since I used to build them

Yes i was meaning to ask about this i do have the 2 that came with it.
are they best on the back oron the mudgaurds?

The neigboure already asked if i could collect a fence pannel

Will be taking my welder for a run in it on tuesday as i have a small job on.

I am unsure what the legal stance (if any) is regarding positioning, I always used to put them on the back.

According to them it's a legal requirement, I think unless only used during daylight hours.... easier just to put them on and avoid problems

I best go and fit those on tomorrow thank for pointing it out rather than letting the local pc's

Im not sure if they would fit over the centre part of the hub as it sticks out a fair bit. next time i see one on the side of the road ill grap it a see

Don't forget front reflectors and if its wide enough fog light. If its un braked a secondary coupler is also required if braked a drake away cable or a secondary coupler if under 1500kg (taken off tyre rating if no data plate)

Front reflectors? are they clear ones?
It overhangs the width of the car about 1 inch eitherside.
It sure doesnt weight that much once i had it atached to the towball i lifted it at the back only feels about 50 - 60 Kg

I welded a bracket on the front. the tyre stands against the front of the board between the A frame bars. its hidden in picture by the wood

It's what it can weight. I take it there is no brakes so it needs a. Secondary coupler so that if detaches during towing it stays connected to vehicle

It has breaks but not connected at the moment. i fitted a brake away cable today once i got back. and it has a safty catch that locks the handle shut once connected.

If it has brakes be very carful taking it on road as if you get stopped your going to get done for fault brakes regardless of weight as if its has them they need to work

Juswt looked up the Secondary coupler will order 1 of ebay in a bit. and with the breaks what i ment was its got the space in hubs for them but i took the shoes and all bits out as they didnt look good

But the coupling is still a brakes one so if pulled police and VOSA would expect functioning brakes

Are ok i swap that lot aswell just ordered secondery coupling. thanks for advise much apreciated.
I had ready lots of info about trailer towing but did not come across these details.
