I eventually got my hands on one, I missed a few good ones, dodged a scammer on ebay and eventually bought one from ebay which come along with all sorts of stuff such as dividing head, reamers, dies/taps, surface plate, magnetic bases and a magnetic table, drills, milling bits etc. Most of the gear is Moore and Wright or Eclipse etc. so better than the stuff from usual ebay store.
The mill hasn't been used for years but did run before we dismantled it to get it in my pig trailer. A previous owner has painted it hammered blue but didn't seem to have a brush so just tipped it on. So while I have it in bits I'll give it a bit of an overhaul and repaint it.
I took the whole knee and saddle off in one piece, I'll get all the screw threads covered up before I do any more but I scraped some of the paint off and after getting through the hammerite and the original green there is what appears to be primer/filler which I didn't expect.
I intend to clean the paint off the knee and the main column by hand but the base and drip tray I'll send to be blasted. If I find I have to strip down the pillar then I'll send that along too but I don't really want to do a nut and bolt renovation, more of a repair and service with a bit of a cosmetic care. However I know I'll end up taking it completely to bits
I've bought a litre of Tom Senior green from Stationary Engine Parts Ltd of York (thanks Shox Dr) which is a synthetic enamel. It looks a bit darker than the original green on this machine but I prefer it.
I intended to paint directly onto the degreased casting or use an etch primer. Now it seems I may have to change this on some parts as it will be a pig to get to metal without sandblasting every bit and then I won't get as good a finish. I don't want to go 2K as I don't have the breathing gear but may use Upol acid 8 etch primer then upol high 5 high build primer or similar as I think these are safe to spray with a decent EN141 vapour mask in a well ventilated barn, I'll check the safety docs. I wonder if the enamel will go onto the high build primer OK? Suggestions welcome.
Cheers
Andy
