Today marks the second anniversary of me owning and using my R-Tech ProMig 250-1.
It has been a superb welder to use, and I use it for a minimum of 18 hours and an average of 24 hours a week, mainly on 8mm & 10mm thick material, but also up to 25mm solid bar and down to 18 gauge ERW tubes.
It has never let me down, it has never tripped out on the duty cycle even though I weld at around 200amps on a 15 minutes on and 10 minutes off cycle over a continual 6 hours duration, and in two years I have put over 800kg of 0.8mm A18 wire through it.
I have experienced one and only one issue with my ProMig 250-1, and that was completely of my making.
The gas solenoid froze open on me once; but it was -4*C in my workshop at the time, I was trying to continually weld so that cooling material radiated heat to warm up the workshop (Yeah, like that was really going to usefully happen!), alas there was ice forming on the outside of my argon/CO2 mix gas cylinder and then solenoid froze open. It then took over two hours to thaw out enough to use again, and it froze open again about 30 minutes later, which was the point that I decided to retire for the day.
Today I have purchased an additional 2 years warranty for my machine. This welder is one of the lynch pins of my business and I cannot afford to be without it for any length of time, and this new policy will avert any repeat of the nightmare scenarios that previously owned Portamig and Sealey mig welders caused me.
In my opinion the additional cost of less than 90p per week for this extended 2 year warranty is more than justified within the operation of my business, and I have it confirmed that the remaining period of this extended warranty is transferable to another owner if I choose to sell this set during this time.
The only conditions are that I inform R-Tech that I have sold the welder to so and so, and that so and so confirms they have purchased the welder from me..... what could be simpler than that?
