hello...
got my new tig kit and a new bottle of gas....got set up and had a go...how far should the tungstan stick out and how far from the work pice should i be...its scratch start tig....and i did get it stuck a few times to.....

I was always told that arc length should be no more than the dia of tungsten and stick out will depend on joint type, ceramic etc but usually around <5mm

Hi all at my first post, I do not want to assume a new theme, I'll ask here, if necessary, move/delete.

The situation of today's TIG welding, stainless steel, slotted up profile to the brand of stainless steel, the current changed several times range from 45 to 67A at the beginning of the 13l/m later 15 l/m, tungsten electrode gas 2.0, a wire 2.0 nozzle 7.

The Problem may be small but if you want to be getting better you need to ask and learn from the best, I welding same as above and in conducting came by me too much heating of the material, on the side of the „mark” it bend even the same face welded in position PA, looked fine.

Whether to reduce the current increase/reduce overheating, or perhaps more current, and faster resort from the profile will be a better option. as I wrote I changed electricity, gas flow but not seen changes effects, and on the short sides and longer equal heat/overheating, maybe I'd not paid attention if not for the supervisor of that first day of work, said that too much overheating of the material, I hope that I wrote in as clear about what's going on and someone suggest a solution. ..

haven't got a clue what you are asking to be honest, are you concerned with distortion?

Try pre-stressing the foot with welding rod, to counter act the distortion. There is no hard and fast rule as weldment, material thickness, and the welders ability, will all have an effect on the amount of preloading required

Try resting the cup on the metal and rocking the tungsten to the metal and then rocking back.

I tried today, and now is much better, Unfortunately I did not have time to try more because welding other stuff.
ps. Sorry for my language, but it was not until I learn the technical language, and my tongue is Polish.
